INGREDIENTS for homemade cough syrup:

¼ cup mullein leaf

1 cup raw honey

2 cups water be sure to use filtered

2 TBSP dried elderberries Optional

INSTRUCTIONS

1.        Combine the herbs and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil.

2.        Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook until the liquid has reduced to about 1 cup. This will take about 30-40 minutes.

3.        Strain out the herbs with a coffee filter and measure the liquid. Add enough water to reach 1 cup, or simmer it some more until there's only 1 cup.

4.        Once the mixture is warm but not piping hot, stir in the honey.

Optional Step: Once you have strained and made the cough syrup, don’t discard the used herbs! Instead, place them back into a pan with approximately 3–4 cups of fresh water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 20–30 minutes. Strain the liquid and pour it into a quart-sized jar. If needed, add more water to make a full quart.

This herbal infusion can be taken in small amounts throughout the day, such as a shot glass full, for an extra boost to your immune system. It’s a great way to maximize the benefits of your ingredients and support overall wellness!
